"That part of society in the countries that supports Putin does not fully understand what war is, they do not feel it firsthand. I would like to ask you: if yesterday in Odessa when the ballistic missile attack took place there had been not the Greek prime minister but the prime minister Italian? If Giorgia Meloni had been there, what would your people have said?".
Volodymyr Zelensky said this when interviewed on 'Cinque Minuti' broadcast this evening on Rai1.
"Would this part of Italian society that does not support Ukraine and supports Putin have remained indifferent? I don't think so," he added.
"I understand that in all societies, not just in Italy, there are people who do not support Ukraine; I believe that the problem is that they do not understand who Putin is, because today not supporting Ukraine means supporting Russia", said Zelensky, returning to comment on his words about Italy at the press conference on the second anniversary of the war.
"Putin is a sick person and does not realize his actions or he does not control his military who shoot at diplomats or civilians of other countries. Either he does not control them or he is a sick person who hunts these people," the president said returning to yesterday's attack in Odessa.
"I am convinced that some people are simply very far away from the war. It is good that they are and it is nice that the war has not come to you and we do not want" it to arrive, "but try to understand that this person has arrived on our land and is killing and wants to do the same thing on other territories, he will not stop. What would the Italians say if the attack had fallen near Meloni that day in Odessa?", reiterated Zelensky.
