… Well known for her roles as period women, Nadia Tereszkiewicz repeats and plays Jagna in
The Girl and the Peasants
, a Polish film adapted from the novel
The Peasants,
by Władysław Reymont, Nobel Prize winner of literature.
For the first time, she tried dubbing and only lent her voice to her character.
The animated film, directed by DK Welchan and Hugh Welchan, recorded 1.8 million admissions in Poland.
It will be showing in French theaters from March 20.
The Girl and the Peasants
allows Nadia Tereszkiewicz to reconnect with her Polish origins.
“My father spoke to me a lot about this novel.
In Poland, it's a masterpiece of more than 1000 pages that we read at school
, she explains.
For me it is important that it crosses borders and, by lending my voice to Jagna, I have the feeling of participating in something that is meaningful.

A motivation that she put at the service of the recording, although it did not come naturally for this physical actress.
“For the dance scenes or the violent scenes, I thought I would be able to be on all fours on the floor screaming and everything, but in fact not at all!”
she exclaims.
There are so many objects that can make noise that you can't really move, you have to find another form of “physicality”.
It was a real challenge, and I really enjoyed it.”
His Caesar, #MeToo and his future projects
If dubbing is a great first for Nadia Tereszkiewicz, she is however used to playing period women's roles.
“It’s interesting to see these characters from the 1930s, 1940s or 1950s with our today’s perspective
,” she explains.
And then I am more comfortable in these roles.
I am often told that I have phrasing that fits with these eras.”
In 2022, in
Les Amandiers
, she played Stella, a young actress from the 1980s. This performance earned her the César for Most Promising Actor in 2023.
“It was difficult to realize that it was my name that was being called
, remembers the actress.
When I went on stage, I had so much adrenaline that I couldn't even speak, it was uncontrollable."
The same year, in
Mon Crime
, she took on the role of Madeleine Verdier, a penniless and talented actress accused of the murder of a producer in the 1930s.
Another era with Jagna, the Polish woman who revolts against her condition in
The Girl and the Peasants
.
“She comes from the Polish countryside of the 19th century and at the same time, she is a modern heroine through her aspirations and her desire for emancipation
,” argues Nadia Tereszkiewicz.
Jagna is fighting against patriarchy and it is a strong and very important fight for young girls today.”

Without having to make much effort, Nadia Tereszkiewicz weaves a parallel with our concerns and the controversies that shake up cinema.
“
Judith Godrèche freed the floor and gave a voice to women who do not have one
,” continues Nadia Tereszkiewicz.
She and all these women who put words to actions that are not ok have allowed younger people to project themselves into this profession, with the hope of working in safety.
And for that, I thank them and support them.”
The actress hopes that awareness will be
“irreversible”.
And regarding her career, she believes she could not wish for better.
“Let it continue like this!”

With what new roles?
Nadia Tereszkiewicz dreams of herself today... as a Marvel superhero.
For dubbing perhaps?
“Oh no, if I do a Marvel, it’s to play!”
, she jokes.
