"On the occasion of March 8, I want to renew my thanks to
all the women of the National Health Service, who represent 70% of the professionals who work in our structures
", out of a total of over 625,000 professionals employed in the NHS.
Thus the Minister of Health Orazio Schillaci, who underlines how "their ever-increasing presence is a precious resource for the protection of every person's health and an asset that we must defend and enhance".
Despite an ever-increasing presence of female medical personnel, the
percentage of female doctors holding the position of facility director remains lower than that of men and unchanged over time;
only 8.3%
of women doctors, we read on the Ministry of Health website, have a structural position in 2022, while for men the value rises to 20.6%;
in other words, 80% of the positions are held by men and only the remaining 20% by women.
Schillaci therefore underlines the importance of protecting the rights of women who work in the NHS, of their safety and well-being, "because often in addition to their workloads, the women of the NHS are unfortunately the most affected by the unacceptable phenomenon of violence, a "urgency on which we intervened immediately. Just as we must ensure the full protection of working mothers".
"Attention to women's health is a priority every day, not just on March 8, and for this reason we are committed to responding in an increasingly adequate way to their specific needs, guaranteeing equity and appropriateness, at all ages and in all the contexts: from prevention, to assistance, from research to safety at work. The complete protection of women's health - concludes the minister - is an essential part of the universality of the National Health Service"..
