Chef Marco Sacco, two Michelin stars at the Piccolo Lago restaurant in Verbania, was sentenced to two months and twenty days in prison for negligent injury and trade in harmful food substances, with the sentence suspended on conditional terms and not mentioned.
Same sentence for the dining room manager, Raffaella Marchetti.
Prosecutor Fabrizio Argentieri had asked for an eight-month sentence for both.
Judge Beatrice Alesci, of the Verbania court, established provisional amounts of over 20 thousand euros: 8 thousand euros in total to the spouses who organized the wedding banquet in the venue, at the end of which some guests suffered symptoms of food poisoning, and 250 euros for each of the 53 parties.
The two defendants are also responsible for legal costs of over ten thousand euros.
The reasons for the sentence will be filed within 90 days.
The story concerns the wedding banquet organized in the venue, overlooking Lake Mergozzo in Verbano-Cusio-Ossola, in July 2021, during which a risotto with clams was served which later turned out to be contaminated with norovirus.
