Gender disparity is also confirmed in bank credit: men receive almost double the amount of loans compared to women.

This is what emerges from a Fabi research on gender disparity in bank financing.

The stock of loans to families granted by the institutions in 2023 amounted to over 474 billion euros: of these 164 billion were disbursed to men, 95 billion to women and 216 billion refer to joint financing contracts.

Overall, according to Fabi's analysis, the creditgender gap is worth almost 70 billion on a national scale: the credit granted to women is equal to 20.1% of the total compared to 34.5% of that of men, while it is worth 45.5 % of joint loans.

However, the distance between women and credit does not divide Italy in two: the gap is homogeneous, in fact, in all geographical areas of the country.

The worst regions are Campania, Puglia, Veneto, Sicily, Basilicata, Lombardy, Piedmont and Calabria, where the credit granted to female customers does not exceed the national average by around 20%.

The three best, however, are Valle d'Aosta, Sardinia and Lazio where bank financing for women reaches 25%, 23.2% and 22.9% respectively.

In Molise, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Emilia-Romagna, Umbria, Marche, Trentino-Alto Adige, Abruzzo, Tuscany and Liguria, the female credit shares range from 20.8% to 22.4%.

The map of bank credit, the research continues, shows how access to financing is predominantly male.

The reasons for this disparity are common: lower employment rate, reduced salaries and pensions.
