Henrique Cappellari, the 30-year-old accused of killing his girlfriend Giulia Rigon, a 31-year-old shop assistant from Asiago, was sentenced to 21 years in prison.
The sentence was issued by the Corted'assiste of Vicenza.
The prosecution, represented by prosecutors SerenaChimichi and Alessia Grenna, had asked for a life sentence for the man.
The collegial court, presided over by judge Lorenzo Miazzo, ruled that Cappellari be placed on probation after serving the sentence.
According to the prosecution, the Vicenza saleswoman was killed by a blow so strong that it broke her sternum and caused cardiac fibrillation and subsequent respiratory arrest.
