"The anxieties of growth, emancipation, the anticipation of change bear the mark of women. Alcestis, Antigone, Clytemnestra, Phaedra, Medea, Electra, still solicit our reflection, they still speak to us. Let us also think about the message of the comedy "Women in Parliament " of Aristophanes: when the situation degenerates they are pushed to replace men. We find this representation, in real life, in the contribution of women's movements to the cause of peace. Let's think of figures such as the American Dorothy Day, first involved in supporting the battle of the "suffragettes" for the vote for women, then to control poverty and social exclusion, and finally for peace".
The President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, said this when speaking at the Quirinale on 8 March.
