"It is improper to attribute the murder" of Alessandra Matteuzzi "to an unhealthy jealousy of the accused, which, if anything, constituted the motive for the crime of persecutory acts, while the murder was motivated by an irresistible desire for revenge, one of the most unreasonable feelings, yet imperatives".
Thus the Court of Assizes of Bologna in justifying the life sentence for ex-footballer Giovanni Padovani, responsible for the aggravated murder of his ex-partner.
For the judges it is not so much a "'murder of love', but rather a 'murder of honour', albeit in a misunderstanding of the latter".
