Sara Errani, n.100 in the ranking, promoted from the qualifiers, did not pass the first round of the WTA 1000 tournament in Indian Wells.
She was defeated 6-3, 6-1 by Japanese former world No. 1 and four-time Slam champion Naomi Osaka, winner at Indian Wells in 2018.
Martina Trevisan, n.59 WTA, was also immediately eliminated in her third participation with the third round achieved last year as her best result.
Excluding her (result 7-5, 6-3) was the French Diane Parry, n.61 in the ranking.
