The RTL program “Hartz und cordial” gives insights into people on the subsistence level.

A single mother now has a new job.

Munich - Citizens' money helps low-income people to secure a humane minimum subsistence level.

From January onwards, the citizen's allowance has increased significantly.

However, many of the recipients do not want to be dependent on social assistance forever, but rather want to reintegrate into the labor market.

This also includes Janine from Mannheim.

In 2022, the single parent opened her own beauty salon.

However, a few weeks ago she had to close it, which is why she applied for citizen's benefit for her family.

However, she only wanted to be dependent on this temporarily, she emphasized in the broadcast on March 5th.

“Hartz and warm”: Citizen’s benefit recipient finds new job

“That’s the be-all and end-all for me,” said the trained make-up artist.

“Sure, job center, you can chill, money will come in, I don’t have to do anything.” But she has to think carefully about what she spends her money on – especially with children.

The fact that Janine left all her options open when looking for a job has now paid off.

The young mother had a successful job interview and signed an employment contract shortly afterwards.

“It feels great,” she said on the show.

Citizen's benefit recipient now works as an integration assistant

In the future, she will work as an integration assistant in a daycare center for 30 hours per week.

Although she originally didn't want to work with children - "because I have my children at home, I have my kindergarten here." But she has now become comfortable with it.

So she learns something new too.

Another participant in the show “Hartz und cordial” is not entirely happy with his job at the job center.

But the young mother cannot live completely independently of the state.

In addition to her salary, Janine also wants to apply for housing benefit and a child allowance.

The latter exists if the income is not enough for the family.

The supplement is applied for for six months and can amount to a maximum of 292 euros per child.

Janine also wants to offer styling.

Citizens' benefit now replaces Hartz IV and is higher than previous benefits.

Many people therefore ask themselves: Is working still worth it?
