An amazing second heat allowed Federica Brignone to win the Aare women's world cup giant slalom, the penultimate of the season.
For her, at 33 years old, it is the fifth success of the season and the 26th of her career, which above all keeps her in the running for the discipline cup.
The Swiss Lara Gut-Behrami, third today behind the Italian and the Swedish Sara Hector, has 745 points in the giant slalom classification against the Italian's 650.
At the foot of the podium, fourth, the other Italian Marta Bassino.
For Italy, in the final ranking after a second heat with the sun, a lowered start and a decidedly improved surface there are also Roberta Melesi 23/a, Asja Zenere 25/a and Elisa Platino 29/a.
At the last giant slalom of the Saalbach Finals - with only the top 25 athletes in the seasonal ranking of each discipline admitted - only Brignone and Bassino will be competing.
Tomorrow in Aare it's the turn of the special slalom, the last race before the finals.
The US champion Mikaela Shiffrin is back on track after the bad fall at the end of January in Cortina d'Ampezzo, aiming not only for stage success but also for winning yet another world cup in the discipline that she has dominated for years with the record overall of 58 victories.
For Italy tomorrow Brignone will also be on the track who wants to end the season as the second best world cup athlete.
