Before the start of the show this evening the workers of La Scala, representatives of the various sectors, musicians, took to the stage to ask for a ceasefire in the Middle East.
In the meantime, behind them the curtain opened to reveal a huge banner with the words 'Cease fire' which was greeted with warm applause from the audience who came to see Madina, a ballet which tells the story of a Chechen girl who chooses not detonate the explosive belt he carries around his waist so as not to die or kill.
