Lund is a medium-sized town in the southern Swedish province of Skåne, around 20 kilometers northeast of Malmö.

The old town is lined with cobblestone streets.

The centerpiece is the centuries-old cathedral.

So it could be almost tranquil and quiet.

Lund, Sweden: Adam, Ulrika and Stella are a completely normal family.

Adam is a priest, Ulrika is a lawyer and Stella is her rebellious daughter.

Shortly after her 19th birthday, a man is found stabbed to death and Stella is arrested as a murder suspect.

But how could she have known the obscure and much older businessman and, above all, what reasons could she have had for killing him?

Now Adam and Ulrika must ask themselves how well they really know their own child - and how far they would go to protect him...

Blurb/Blanvalet

At the center of the story is Pastor Adam Sandell's family, which at first glance seems like any other family.

Ulrika, the mother, is a busy lawyer, while her daughter Stella has just graduated from high school and is saving for a trip to Asia.

Adam, on the other hand, devotes his life to faith.

As in many families, problems big and small are the order of the day, but in order to keep up appearances, they have to be solved within your own four walls.

Stella is a challenging daughter with a strong will, and her parents must learn to deal with her and her own difficulties.

But then seemingly normal family life collapses - Stella is accused of murder.

Each family member reacts to this dramatic turn of events in their own way and tries to save the family - even with a lie if necessary.

The book's original Swedish title translates as "An Ordinary Family".

This would fit the novel much better, but doesn't detract from the suspense.

The three perspectives from which the book and the film are told make it exciting until the last page.

Stella Sandell: Innocent or cold-blooded murderer?

The Sandell family's secrets become more and more compelling as you delve further into their circumstances.

The seemingly perfect family hides a wealth of problems behind its facade.

With each subsequent chapter the reader delves further and lifts more and more of the veil, although the subjective representations never reveal the complete truth for the reader.

It is precisely this ambiguity that maintains the ongoing tension in this thriller.

The focus of this novel is not the murder, but the characters involved and their reactions to what happened.

What led to this act?

How does the past affect the present?

And of course – was it actually Stella who committed the murder?

These questions keep the reader on the edge of their seats throughout the entire reading, and in a consistently exciting way.

With each chapter, more details are revealed and it becomes increasingly clear how far each individual is willing to go to defend what they care about.

Mattias Edvardsson is also included in the spring crime thriller recommendation with another title (“The Truth”).

Fans of psychological thrillers should get it here!

The Netflix adaptation is based on the original book and can subtly and gradually convey the tension that you would want from such a film adaptation.
