The former Brazilian president, Jair Bolsonaro, has instructed his lawyers to request authorization for a trip to Israel, after receiving an invitation from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
The former right-wing head of state, at the center of an investigation into an attempted coup, was deprived of his passport last month.
The detail of Netanyahu's invitation was revealed by the former president himself, to a political event in Salvador.
While Bolsonaro has repeatedly declared his support for Israel, Lula's progressive government is at loggerheads with the Tel Aviv executive, after having repeatedly defined the Israeli incursions in the Gaza strip as "genocide".
