A lifeless body was found by rescuers in Gagnières (Gard), after the violent storms that hit south-eastern France.
The Prefecture makes this known.
This is the first person found dead in south-eastern France, where 7 people were reported missing.
A car with two occupants, of Belgian nationality, was overwhelmed by the water when it crossed a submerged bridge in the village north of Gard, on the border with Ardèche, despite a ban on crossing it.
One of the occupants was rescued by rescuers after clinging to a tree for two hours.
“A body has been discovered in the river in Gagnières and an investigation has been opened into the causes of death,” said Abdelkrim Grini, public prosecutor of Alès.
According to a source close to the search, the body was found hundreds of meters from where the car was hit.

As for the other six missing people, including two children, they are a father and his two children aged 4 and 13, run over in Dions, north of Nîmes, around 11.30pm on Saturday, and two other people in Goudargues, in the north of the department, around 5 a.m. on Sunday, Frédéric Loiseau, general secretary of the prefecture, said in a press conference.
Furthermore, a man has been missing since Saturday evening in Saint Martin de Valamas, in Ardèche, the department's prefecture said.
A search operation was launched by the firefighters and the gendarmerie.
According to a gendarmerie source, the missing person is the director of a hydroelectric power plant.
