The supermarket chain Edeka advertises with the naked wrestler John Cena after the Oscar night.

There's a reason for that - and it's well received online.

Munich – It was the most bizarre moment of an otherwise rather unspectacular Oscar night on Sunday (March 10th).

US wrestler John Cena took the stage at this year's Oscars in Los Angeles in an “Adam costume”, only with sandals on his feet and an envelope in front of his crotch.

A day later, a picture of the 46-year-old appeared on the Edeka supermarket chain's Instagram channel instead of in Hollywood.

There you can see the photo of naked John Cena next to several products from the supermarket.

These have more to do with the muscle-bound star than you might initially think.

Edeka turns Hollywood star into an advertising medium for low-fat quark, body lotion and disposable razors

In fact, these are products that Cena is likely to be familiar with - although probably from US brands.

Shown are things that a wrestler with an Adonis body absolutely needs: low-fat quark, skin-tightening body lotion and disposable razors for men.

The allusion is made even clearer by the request next to the products: “Shop the Look!”, writes Edeka, in German: “Buy the appearance!” The company, which always makes people sit up and take notice with humorous campaigns, comments: “So quick and easy you get the perfect stage outfit.

And what was your favorite outfit at the Oscars?”

Internet users celebrate Edeka advertising with naked John Cena from the Oscar stage

With this cheeky idea, Edeka is taking the hearts of its approximately 237,000 followers by storm.

“I’m celebrating,” writes the user with the most likes.

“What a great campaign idea.

"Someone is being promoted." That's probably what 54 other users also want, because so often the thumbs up goes for the campaign with a celebrity factor.

The company only recently decided on one of these when customers were surprised by a new face behind the cheese counter.

Others also take their hats off to the advertising department.

“Quick and nice!

Chapeau,” writes one, “marketing played through,” another.

Another user even announces that he will be visiting the supermarket soon: “Finally some good advertising!

I'm going to buy low-fat quark right away, you deserve it!” Many people also praise the company for having the courage to do this daring advertising.

“Creative agency and a client who dares.

Great combo!”

Instagram users refer to trademarks of US wrestler John Cena under Edeka advertising

Of course, the US wrestler's trademark should not be missing in the comments column.

Users repeatedly refer to the saying that John Cena has become famous for: “You can’t see me.” This is what the athlete typically says in the ring, coupled with a hand signal.

Cena wants to express that he is too fast for his opponent, that his opponent “can’t see” him.

The whole thing has long since developed into a “meme”, a kind of running gag on the Internet.

People then act as if they actually can't see Cena.

The same now seems to be the case with users.

“I just see a sign???

#youcantseeme," writes one and another also says: "All I see is a microphone stand." The supermarket won't care because customers shouldn't primarily pay attention to the wrestler, but to something completely different: the products.
