Spending by foreign tourists in Italy is soaring thanks above all to the growth in arrivals.
In 2023, as can be seen from the Bank of Italy tables, revenues rose by 17% and the tourism balance recorded a surplus of 20.2 billion, up compared to 2022 (18.2 billion).
In terms of incidence on GDP, the surplus rose to 1.0 percent, as in 2019. Both tourist receipts and expenditure increased compared to 2022 (by 17 and 21 percent respectively).
In the fourth quarter alone, spending by foreign tourists rose by 19%.
