Cats love variety in their bowls.
Some of the animals even find eggs irresistible.
But be careful, there are dangers lurking.
Many cats really love eggs and would love to eat them every day.
But is it healthy to give an egg every now and then to supplement and change your daily dry or wet food?

Can I feed my cat a raw egg?
In general, it is absolutely okay to give a cat an egg every now and then.
For us humans, eggs are part of our diet because they contain many proteins, vitamins and nutrients and the same applies to cats.
If they are fed correctly, they can also benefit from the proteins and minerals they contain, making them a healthy nutritional supplement.
However, eggs are not considered the healthiest food for cats.
Caution is particularly advised with raw eggs, even though they are generally not poisonous to cats.
So don't panic if your cat licks a raw egg.
However, there is a risk that it is contaminated with salmonella, which can be really dangerous for the cat.
So it's better to boil the egg before feeding, because then the salmonella will be killed when heated.

Can I feed my cat a boiled egg?
Cats can eat boiled eggs in moderation.
However, these should be unseasoned and without any leftover peel.
It is also better to only feed your cat the egg yolk, because the egg white contains avidin, which can inhibit the absorption of biotin (an important vitamin for healthy skin and beautiful fur) and thereby disrupt the cat's normal fat metabolism.
Because boiled eggs are a good source of protein, they can contribute to a balanced diet for cats as a healthy snack.
But like humans, it's important not to eat too many eggs.
One egg per week is completely okay and sufficient for the furry friend.
This is definitely something to keep in mind when feeding eggs to a cat:
Always cook eggs well to exclude salmonella.
Allow egg to cool completely and chop before feeding to cat.
Only offer unseasoned eggs without any remaining shells.
It's best to only feed the egg yolk.
One chicken egg per week is enough.
Only feed very fresh eggs.

Are scrambled eggs good for cats?
Scrambled eggs are also generally harmless as an addition to the usual food.
But here too, care should be taken to ensure that it is unseasoned and prepared without the addition of oil, butter or other fats.
These fats or spices can be harmful to the cat.
The same goes for fried eggs.

Is egg yolk good for cat fur?

Healthy, high-quality cat food already contains all the vitamins and minerals that keep your cat healthy and also ensure that its coat stays shiny.

The egg should always be an exception and considered a treat.
What shouldn't cats eat?
Basically, it is important that the foods you give the cat in addition to the usual cat food are not salted, spiced or smoked.
Cats are not allowed to eat these foods, including rollmops, herring, sausage or smoked meat.
Just like raw eggs, raw meat and fish can pose a risk of salmonella and the like.
Dairy products, chocolate, dog food, bread, yeast, tuna, onions and garlic are also difficult to digest and therefore not suitable for cats.
As a rule, cats are very well supplied with a good mix of dry and wet food and stay healthy and fit for a long time.
