Celta Vigo have announced the dismissal of coach Rafael Benítez due to the poor results of the Galician club, which is fighting to avoid relegation to the second division.
“Rafa Benitez and his coaching team leave RC Celta after eight months of absolute dedication and total commitment, during which the team did not achieve the results expected by the club,” Celta explained in a statement.
Benitez, 63, began his tenure at the helm of Celta last June, with a contract initially scheduled until 2026. The former Liverpool manager had underlined several times in recent weeks that he had signed for a three-year project, but poor results led to dismissal.
Celta have not revealed who will replace Benitez, but according to the Spanish press, the reserve team coach, Claudio Giraldez, could take the reins of the team.
