Long before Celine Dion, it was to him that we owe this essential song.
American singer Eric Carmen, singer of the hit “All By Myself”, died “during the weekend”, at the age of 74, his wife announced on the artist's website.
“Our sweet, loving and talented Eric passed away in his sleep over the weekend.
He was very happy to know that for decades his music has touched so many people and will be his legacy for a long time.
We ask that you respect the family's privacy as we mourn his loss,” wrote his wife Amy, whose husband he had been since 2016.
A first title which earned him censorship from the BBC
The American star made his name with the power pop group The Raspberries in the 1970s. They released their first album “Raspberries” in 1972. Their song “Go All The Way” had a small success before being banned by the BBC in the United Kingdom, due to its lyrics containing sexual content.
Forty years later, this same title had a second lease of life by integrating the soundtrack of the film “Guardians of the Galaxy”.
After four albums, the group broke up in 1975 and Éric Carmen then launched a solo career.
He then released “All By Myself” in 1975, a title that he had written and composed using elements from the second movement of “Piano Concerto No. 2” by Sergei Rachmaninov.
Beyond this hit, he also had great success with the song “Hungry Eyes” in 1987, which appears in the film “Dirty Dancing”.
