“The European Council urges the Israeli Government to refrain from a ground operation in Rafah, where over one million Palestinians are currently seeking safety from fighting and access to humanitarian assistance.” (HANDLE)

"The European Council urges the Israeli Government to refrain from a ground operation in Rafah, where more than one million Palestinians are currently seeking safety from fighting and access to humanitarian assistance."

This is what we read in the draft conclusions of the EU summit on 21 and 22 March.

This is the first draft of the summit's conclusions, which will be on the table at the Permanent Representatives meeting (Coreper II) tomorrow morning.

The leaders - we read in the text - "call for an immediate humanitarian pause that leads to a sustainable ceasefire".
