Final green light from the Plenary for the green homes directive, which sets the objective of zero emissions by 2050 for the EU real estate stock.
The directive, the subject of complex negotiations between member countries and community institutions, was approved with 370 votes in favour, 199 against and 46 abstentions.
At the moment of approval, Lega MEP Angelo Ciocca staged a protest with a referee's whistle, the sound of which ricocheted around the Chamber for several seconds.
The current president of the Chamber asked Ciocca to leave, defining his gesture as "deplorable and unprecedented".
