The American singer Eric Carmen, interpreter of the hits Hungry Eyes (in the DirtyDancing soundtrack) and All by Myself, later performed by Celine Dion, has died at the age of 74.
This was announced by his wife, who did not specify where his death occurred or the cause of his death.
"Our sweet, loving and talented Eric passed away in his sleep this weekend. He was very happy to know that for decades his music has touched so many people and will always be remembered by them," he wrote in a message posted on the artist's website.
Amy Carmen also asked fans to "respect the family's privacy as we mourn our terrible loss."
Born in 1949 in Cleveland, Ohio, Eric Carmen began his musical career by co-founding the rock group The Raspberries in the 1970s, an experience that lasted five years.
The band then reunited in 2004. A concert from this tour later became an album, released in 2017, entitled Raspberries PopArt Live.
Eric Carmen is best known for All by Myself and HungryEyes, but also for Almost Paradise, which he co-wrote for the film Footloose and which earned him a Grammy nomination.
His hits have been covered by artists as diverse as Céline Dion, Shaun Cassidy (That's Rock 'n Roll) and John Travolta (Never Gonna Fall in Love Again).
