A police officer, a lawyer, a city councilor, a student.

These are some of the victims of the tragedy that took place last Saturday on the slopes of Tete Blanche, a few kilometers from the border with Italy.

A group of ski mountaineers was hit by bad weather, with winds of over 150 kilometers per hour and temperatures perceived as minus 30 degrees.

After an intense day of searches, five bodies were found on Sunday evening, all frozen to death, while the search is still continuing for the sixth missing person.

A tragedy that will be remembered for years and which has cast gloom over the entire canton of Valais, but above all on the small community of Vex, a town of almost 2,000 inhabitants on the outskirts of Sion.

The Moix family lives there, mourning the passing of three brothers, a cousin and an uncle.

After studying finance at the University of St. Gallen and Westminster in London, Jean-Vincent Moix had returned home and had recently been elected city councilor.

He was a well-known figure within the small community: he played in the local football team, was a passionate mountaineer and played in a brass band.

"It is a huge tragedy to lose a colleague in the city council. Our thoughts are with him, with his family who find themselves immersed in immeasurable pain" said mayor Sébastien Menoud.

Also with him in that dramatic journey were his brother David, a lawyer by profession after graduating with top marks, and his cousin Marc, captain of the Valais cantonal police.

Among the victims there is also Emilie Deschenaux, 28 years old, resident in Freiburg, a great fan of skiing and cycling: she had recently moved to Iceland where she was studying for a master's degree in law.

In memory of the victims, the Vex community gathered for a vigil in front of the church on Monday evening: around 300 people took to the streets with a candle and classical music playing in the background.
