A passenger traveling on a
long-distance bus
from
Misiones
to Buenos Aires was
detained
by the Argentine National Gendarmerie after it was discovered that he
was transporting
an unusual cargo in the hold of the bus:
90 snakes, 236 spiders
of different species and a
centipede
.
The discovery occurred at the “Cuay Grande” Fixed Control Post of Squadron 57 “Santo Tomé” of the security force, located at kilometer 669 of National Route No. 14. The gendarmes, when carrying out the routine inspection of the vehicle , they detected
two suitcases that made a peculiar sound
and that aroused their suspicions.
When they opened them, they found an unusual and dangerous
ménagerie
: 90 snakes of various species, some of them
poisonous
, 236 spiders of different sizes and colors, and a centipede.
Animal abuse was notorious: the
vipers
, for example, were
in bags
.
The authorities detained the passenger, who
could not prove the origin or destination
of the animals, and the Environmental and Rural Prosecutor's Office of Santo Tomé and the Flora and Fauna office of the province intervened.
The Gendarmerie control was carried out at kilometer 669 of National Route No. 14.
The animals were kidnapped and later
delivered to the province's Wildlife Department
for care and relocation to a suitable environment.
The detainee was traveling with a hundred animals and insects.

It is being investigated whether the alleged trafficker intended to sell the animals on the black market or if it was a case of illegal wildlife trafficking.

In January of this year, another Gendarmerie squad detained a man in Santiago del Estero who was transporting more than 150 talking parrots in the trunk of his car, inside
cages, Styrofoam preserves and
wooden crates, bound for Termas de Río. Deep.
The procedure took place at kilometer 798 of National Route 34, when the uniformed officers stopped a Duster Oroch truck that was being driven by a man who was traveling to the city of Termas de Río Hondo.
When the tarp that covered the trunk was lifted and the vehicle was seized, they found the animals inside its box, which were transferred into cages, Styrofoam storage bins and other wooden boxes.
