Convicted on appeal, in Perugia, after acquittal in the first instance was a public official in service at the time of the events in the judicial police section of the public prosecutor's office of Terni, recognized as being responsible for the unauthorized access to the Sicp computer system, which is used to manage the data relating to criminal proceedings registered in the register of crime reports and covered by the confidentiality of the investigation.
The story dates back to 2016 and is linked to a post published on Facebook by the accused which reported confidential news regarding another member of the state police, a superior of the accused.
The public official was sentenced to six months' imprisonment (suspended sentence), in addition to the payment of court costs and compensation for damages.
The sentence issued in 2021 by the Court of Terni had instead acquitted the accused, as stated in a statement from the Attorney General of Perugia Sergio Sottani.
From the investigations it emerged that the public official, for reasons of resentment towards the civil party - we always read in the prosecutor's note -, without any authorization, taking advantage of his position and using his credentials, had accessed the criminal cognition information system, protected by security measures, to steal data and information contained in concerning a particular criminal proceeding.
The checks revealed around fifteen accesses on four different days over a dozen days.
