For the first time, a woman will be part of the Iranian refereeing team for a men's football match.
According to Iranian media reports, Mahsa Ghorbani, 34, has been appointed one of the three assistant referees (VAR) for the derby that will be played tomorrow at the Azadi Stadium in Tehran between Persepolis and Esteghlal, the two best in the championship.
This was announced by Khodadad Afsharian, head of the referees committee of the Iranian Football League.
Ghorbani will therefore be the first Iranian woman to referee a men's match.
According to the Mehr agency, women will also be allowed among the spectators.
Ghorbani has previously refereed the AFC Women's Asian Cup and the 2023 Women's World Cup.
