"The Italian economy, despite its structural problems, has shown its potential by emerging from the Covid pandemic with an exceptionally strong recovery" but "globalisation is now going into reverse, the monetary union is still incomplete and Italy could easily fall back into the trap of low growth".
This was stated by the governor of the Bank of Italy Fabio Panetta in his speech at the symposium in honor of his predecessor Ignazio Visco where he recalled how these negative elements (which are placed alongside successes such as the launch of the Euro) "are very close to Visco's heart. I can assure you - he said that the Bank of Italy will continue to work on it with the same passion and rigor that Visco had when he was governor".
