The Agri-Food Center of Rome (CAR) has obtained financing of 10 million euros for the renovation works of the agri-food hub aimed at the marketing of fruit, vegetables and fish products through interventions for digitalisation and environmental sustainability. The funds - allocated thanks to the work on the national tables of Italmercati - come from the 150 million euros of the Pnrr that the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forestry (Masaf) has allocated to investments for the development of logistics for the agri-food, fishing and aquaculture, forestry, floriculture and nursery.
At the center of the CAR project, the agri-food hub based in Guidonia specifies in a note, there will be the transformation interventions of some logistics spaces aimed at optimizing the market and making the storage of goods more efficient with particular attention to the efficiency of the processes distributive.
The important milestone achieved will also allow us to optimize the digitalisation of the CAR and strengthen the Centre's IT network, improving performance and security against cyber attacks.
In this regard, an important innovation will be the creation of a digital logistics platform to encourage connections with operators, a real marketplace.
Various specific environmental interventions for energy efficiency and water management will be implemented through financing.
To contribute to the energy transition and reduce the environmental impact, an additional latest generation photovoltaic system will be built which will allow an increase in the production of clean energy.
To improve the efficiency and availability of water in the CAR, new systems will be created for the collection and treatment of water with the aim of reducing waste and managing the water resource more efficiently.
"The new resources of the Pnrr will allow us to continue the path undertaken by making the CAR a point of reference for the agri-food system with cutting-edge structures, sustainable practices and a strong positive impact on the community, the environment and the circular economy" he commented Fabio Massimo Pallottini, General Director of the Agri-food Center of Rome.
"With this CAR project which already today contributes to the development of over 450 operators, we further focus on digitalisation and sustainability as important pillars of growth and development", concludes Valter Giammaria, President of CAR.
