The commissioner structure for the fight against swine fever has been strengthened "through the appointment of three sub-commissioners who will strengthen synergies and collaboration between the State and the Regions, so as to be able to effectively deal with the spread of ASF".
Thus the undersecretary of Masaf, senator Patrizio La Pietra, on the sidelines of the meeting on the PSA, held at the Ministry of Health, in the presence of the undersecretary Marcello Gemmato, representatives of the Regions, agricultural associations, breeding and the pig production chain.
"We are changing our approach to the problem thanks to the work of the extraordinary commissioner - continued La Pietra - so as to be able to guarantee the health safety parameters and protect the farms. He is actively contributing to the containment of the number of wild boars in the territories, particularly affected by the Psa also the Ministry of Defense, which with the Air Force and Navy soldiers, also thanks to the use of drones, is operating in a synergistic perspective with the other subjects interested in the implementation of the strategy to contain ungulates".
"However, let us remember that the problem - underlined La Pietra - will not be solved overnight, despite the technology and men employed, because unfortunately we are starting from an extremely high surplus, given that, for too long, the situation has not been addressed in a rigorous and now we find ourselves having to act extremely quickly and resolutely over very large areas. It is essential that as soon as possible - concluded the Undersecretary for Agriculture - the Regions give us an accurate snapshot of the numbers of ungulates present in excess on the territory so as to be able to effectively activate the teams of bioregulators and win this difficult battle".
The three sub-commissioners are Doctor Mario Chiari, who has been entrusted with the coordination of the veterinary services of the local health authorities responsible for the territory for the purposes of eradicating African swine fever and containing wild boars;
Doctor Giovanni Filippini, who will have to deal with verifying the regularity of the slaughter procedures, the destruction of infected animals and the disposal of pig carcasses, as well as the disinfection procedures carried out under the control of the ASL;
Colonel Simone Siena who is entrusted with the activity of comparison and consultation with the trade associations of meat distribution and sales companies, in order to promote the introduction into the supply chain of the heads of the wild boar species killed, after verification of the suitability for food consumption.
