Electric toothbrushes are intended to make brushing your teeth easier and improve the result.
Stiftung Warentest checks selected devices – and these are the best:
Stiftung Warentest tested electric toothbrushes for their ability to clean and handle.
There were clear losers in the tests, but also winners who impressed with their cleaning performance, handling and usability (more test reports can be found here).
Among the losers are products that are not convincing in terms of teeth cleaning, handling and environmental properties.
HEIDELBERG24 reveals which electric toothbrush you should choose.
The best electric toothbrush according to Stiftung Warentest
The experts at Stiftung Warentest were able to convince six out of ten electric toothbrushes tested.
They all received a grade of “good”.
The other four achieve a maximum of “satisfactory” because they are not convincing in terms of handling and environmental properties.
Some – even the better rated ones – even contain harmful substances.
One model completely broke during the drop test.
A more detailed test report on the electric toothbrush test from Stiftung Warentest can be found here.
The test shows that the cheapest electric toothbrushes actually clean best.
These are the brushes from Müller, Budni and Rossmann.
But unfortunately these lose points in terms of handling and environmental properties.
These are the winners of the electric toothbrushes in the test:
Oral-B i0 Series 10 Cosmic Black: grade “good” (2.0)
Oral-B i0 Series 4N: grade “good” (2.0)
Budni Diadent Total Clean Pro: grade “good” (2.1)
Which toothbrush do dentists recommend?
Whether it's a manual toothbrush or an electric device, it's up to each individual to decide which brush is better. However, various studies rate the cleaning results of the electric toothbrush as being better than those of the conventional manual toothbrush.
Although plaque can also be effectively removed with a manual toothbrush, the right technique is important.
The electric toothbrush is also usually faster than the manual toothbrush.
In addition, you can be sure that shaking and vibration movements are carried out by the electric toothbrush.
This makes cleaning much easier.
Regardless of whether it is an electric or manual toothbrush, there are things that you should definitely pay attention to.
For example, how often you should change a toothbrush.

This is what you should pay attention to when buying an electric toothbrush
After Stiftung Warentest tested electric toothbrushes, it is now clear that even inexpensive models deliver full cleaning power and ensure a radiantly white smile.
So it's always worth paying attention to the test seals when buying.
Brushes with an integrated timer are particularly practical because they use a vibration signal to indicate when it is time to change the jaw quadrant.
Battery life is also an important criterion when buying an electric toothbrush.
It is advisable to choose a brush with a long battery life.
When choosing a toothbrush model, it is also important to consider the cost of replacement toothbrushes.
And it's also worth checking out which toothpaste goes best with the best electric toothbrush.
