The Pope asks for continued commitment in the Church to "eradicate" the phenomenon of abuse.
In a message to participants in an event on 'Vulnerability and abuse' taking place in Panama, Pope Francis reiterates: "Our work must undoubtedly aim to eradicate situations that protect those who hide behind their position to impose themselves on others in a perverse way, but also to understand why he can't relate to others in a healthy way."
The Pontiff also asks to delve deeper into the issue for which "some agree to go against their conscience, out of fear, or allow themselves to be deceived by false promises, knowing deep down in their hearts that they are on the wrong path".
The Pope therefore invites us to "humanize relationships in any society, even in the Church" because this "means committing ourselves to forming mature and coherent people who, firm in their faith and ethical principles, are capable of facing evil, bearing witness to the truth".
"A society that is not based on these assumptions of moral integrity will be a sick society, with human and institutional relationships compromised by selfishness, mistrust, fear and deception", concludes the Pope.
