The ordinary part of the "Costa Pulita" trial resulting from the anti-mafia operation of the same name which on 20 April 2016 led to the arrest of numerous people considered to be alleged leaders or followers ended before the judges of the Court of Vibo Valentia with 25 convictions, 13 non-prosecutions and 7 acquittals of the 'ndrangheta clans Accorinti of Briatico, Mancuso of Limbadi and of the Il Grande family of Parghelia.
In this section there are 45 defendants - in short the appeal ended with 22 convictions and 7 acquittals - accused in various capacities of mafia association, extortion, usury, external competition in mafia association, rigged contracts, damage, illegal possession of weapons, fictitious registration of assets and society, electoral corruption, interference in public procurement, aggravated by mafia methods.
The defendants also include entrepreneurs, municipal administrators and representatives of the technical offices of local authorities.
The court issued the verdict with a total penalty of 140 years of imprisonment compared to the 300 requested on 12 January by the Catanzaro DDA prosecutor Annamaria Frustaci.
Compensation for damages has been awarded, to be paid in civil proceedings, against civil companies, including the Anti-racket and anti-usury Association of the province of Vibo Valentia, the Ministry of the Interior, the government's extraordinary commissioner for the coordination of anti-racket and anti-usury initiatives, the Calabria Region , the Province and Municipality of Vibo and the Municipalities of Parghelia and Briatico.
The heaviest sentence, 13 years and 8 months, was inflicted on the alleged boss Pantaleone Mancuso "Scarpuni", while Domenico Mancuso, son of Peppe known as "'mbrogghja" was given 6 years and 6 months.
The former councilor of Briatico Domenico Marzano was sentenced to 9 years and 2 months, Armando Bonavita, son of the late boss Pino, to 5 years.
