The PassportCard index for March 2024 reveals significant changes in the foreign travel habits of Israelis.
PassportCard, the largest foreign travel insurance company in Israel, publishes the March index today.
The index shows that the war created many changes in Israelis' travel habits abroad, starting with the choice of destination, and ending with the duration of their stay abroad.
At the top of the list of destinations invited for the Passover period is the United States, with more than 12% of all Israelis flying during this period.
More than double than last Passover, when the United States was ranked sixth with 5.5% of all flights.
In second place in Passover destinations, Thailand, to which 10% of Israelis fly.
Last year Thailand was not at all in the table of the ten most popular destinations.
And another new country on the list is Japan, which climbs to fifth place with about 6% of the flights.
Greece, which led the list of the most popular destinations for Passover last year, is in fourth place this year.

Another clear change that emerges from the list of the ten destinations for Passover this year, is the departure from the list of Turkey, Egypt and the United Emirates, which last year were all in the top five destinations.
This is despite the fact that at a time when there was a drop of more than 90% in the number of flights to Turkey and Egypt, it was precisely in the United Arab Emirates that an increase in the percentage of passengers was recorded compared to the quarter before the war.
The recovery in the return of flights in preparation for Passover began to be reflected already in February this year, where a 50% jump was recorded in the number of flights abroad compared to the month before, January 2024.

The duration of the Israeli tourist's trip has increased significantly
The Passportcard index data for the month of March also shows that the duration of the Israeli tourist's trip has increased significantly - the number of flights abroad for a period of more than two weeks has tripled during Passover this year - 37% of passengers fly for 15 days or more, more than three times compared to last year's Passover.
Ronit Segal, CEO of PassportCard: "In recent weeks, there has been a consistent increase in the number of flights abroad, and this is also part of the return to activity of some international airlines.
In addition, this year we see clear changes in Israelis' flying habits - following the exemption from the need for a visa to the US, there is both a jump in the number of flights there and a significant increase in the average vacation time. You can also see that the direct flights to Thailand and Japan have increased the number of people going there this year."
