"The last few years have been years of great difficulty, of suffering. Personal and professional, plus everything was complicated by the pandemic. I had a heavy mental load that I tried to pour into writing and music to find within myself the strength to react and find positivity. Well, my new album is a very positive album, there is light and there is the desire to talk to others. An album, full of life, that reaches out to everyone."

Bugo, four years after that Sanremo festival which saw him as a negative protagonist with Morgan, while not hiding the difficulties that began with that collaboration which ended in disqualification and still sees the two artists opposed in court, is ready to start again, to leave behind "oppressive thoughts" and a difficult period with an album, Luckily for me, out on March 15th for 7 srl/ADA Music, which becomes a manifesto and cry of freedom.

For himself and for all those who have faced dark times.

And to feel even more at ease, he delved deeply into rock'n'roll.

"A risk. But life without risks would be terribly boring," he says.

"Rock has always been the substratum of my music - says the 50-year-old singer-songwriter -. My idea has always been to not repeat myself, and this time too I needed to do something different and above all to have a genre that allowed me to be drier and left room for even intimate feelings, rediscovering the honest and clean energy of the sound of the guitars. Rock has helped me a lot, also because I know it well, I've been turning it around and around for 30 years. It's a return home ".

Because rock, which seems to have a new life, never dies: "it has never gone out of fashion. Even if it isn't even made to go into the charts, it is rebellious music. Every now and then some artist, Nirvana, Oasis, has I was lucky enough to go on the hit parade, but basically it comes from a profound need. And this energy has always been in me."

The new work was preceded by the singles Un bambini, Rock and Roll, Non lo so!

and Luckily I'm here.

"I chose to give the album the title of the first song - explains Bugo - because I liked the idea of retracing a certain history of Italian song from the past and highlighting the fact that anyone can find themselves in complicated situations and find the motivations within oneself".

The line Silvia you know that closes, we're not in Hollywood, also follows this line of thought.

"Someone thought it was a quote from Luca Carboni or from Silvia sung by Vasco Rossi - explains the artist -: in reality not. While I was composing the song with the acoustic guitar it came out like this, it sounded good so why not? The fact of being part of a long Italian tradition makes me feel at ease."

Music is a healing balm, even after the suffering and pain of these last years: "Writing is good for me, I still need time to free myself, luckily there is music, and the important things in life like mine family, my friends. I hope to get well soon."

Meanwhile, the trial that sees him pitted against Morgan, who during the festival changed the lyrics of the song they took to the competition, continues.

"There are still two sessions to go. I rejected the proposal for an apology and compensation because it caused me enormous inconvenience, damage, including to my image, and tremendous suffering. But I'd like to point out that it wasn't just me who refused, but it was the same PM".

He, however, is looking ahead: I would like to be a judge on went through.

I make music, but if there are interesting proposals on TV too, I'll evaluate them."

At the moment there is also a vacancy at Ariston: "If they were to ask me, if I could give my all and come out well, we could talk about it", he doesn't rule it out, with a half smile and then specifies: "These are fun but sporadic episodes.

I am and remain a singer-songwriter."
