Illegal waste is becoming an increasingly bigger problem – especially in cities.
Berlin is therefore increasing its fines considerably.
Not an isolated case.
Paper cups, tissues, plastic packaging, cigarette butts and even bulky waste.
There is a real waste problem in Germany's cities, especially in large cities such as Berlin, Hamburg and Munich.
This is not only a major problem for the image of the cities - the environment also suffers.
Politicians reacted to this a few years ago and introduced fines for improperly disposed of waste.
But that doesn't seem to be enough to deter potential waste offenders.
That's why in Berlin, for example, even harder strings will be used in the future - even significantly harder strings.
The black-red coalition is planning a drastic increase in fines for waste offenders

As the
Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg (RBB)
reports, the black-red coalition wants to make illegal waste disposal in Berlin significantly more expensive.
This emerges from the draft of a new catalog of fines.
Various penalties increase significantly, especially when it comes to “waste quantities of two kilograms or more”.
Instead of 100 euros, the perpetrators will in future have to shell out 3,000 euros - an increase of 2,900 percent!

Of course, in Bavaria there are also rules regarding correct waste disposal.
And in the Free State, too, crimes committed by environmental offenders are punished if they are caught.
Smaller items such as paper cups, cigarette packs or banana peels are penalized with 20 euros.
Larger items such as refrigerators or washing machines, however, are fined between 160 and 500 euros.
