The Senate rejected the League's amendment which asked to raise the limit of mandates of regional governors from two to three.
There were 26 yes votes, 112 no votes and 3 abstentions. The majority, as happened before the commission, was divided.
Fratelli d'Italia and Forza Italia voted against the amendment together with Pd, M5s and Avs while Salvini's party voted in favor with Italia Viva.
The rapporteur of the decree, Alberto Balboni (Fdi), had expressed a contrary opinion, while the government, with the undersecretary Wanda Ferro, had deferred to the Chamber.
