"We will not give up."
These are the words of Leonid Volkov, right-hand man and great personal friend of Alexei Navalny, after the attack with hammers suffered yesterday in Lithuania.
"We will work and we will not give up," he wrote on Telegram, adding that the attack, which left him with a broken arm, was a "characteristic bandit salute" by Putin's henchmen.
Lithuanian police announced they had opened a criminal investigation into what happened.
Deputy police chief Saulius Tamulevicius said investigators were examining various theories, but he provided no details.
"We are taking all necessary measures to clarify the motives and causes of the crime. Different versions are being evaluated," he told Lrt radio.
The attack against Volkov occurred a few days before the Russian presidential elections of March 15-17 and less than a month
after Navalny's death.
According to the Vilnius authorities, the attack was probably "organized by Russia".
whose aim "was to stop the implementation of the projects of the Russian opposition".
"Attacks like this can only be planned. But I think we can only say one thing to Putin: no one here is afraid of you."
This was stated by the Lithuanian president, Gitanas Nauseda.
