Owner demonstrates how his dog should bark - with success

Owner Sophie puts her Swiss mountain dog Nika to the test.

She should learn to bark on command.

However, it has never worked so far.

That's why she resorts to an unusual trick in dog training and captures the whole thing in a video on

Instagram

.

She got the idea from trainer Julia Möller (

) on

.

The implementation is simple: With a bag of treats in her hand, Sophie asks her partner Pascal to give “loudly”.

He responds with a human “Wow” – and receives effusive praise and a treat from his partner.

Now it's Nika's turn.

However, the dog just looks at her owner expectantly and only makes a weak grumble - no reward for her.

She goes away empty-handed a total of three times, while Pascal gets food for his barking each time.

But suddenly Nika understood what it was all about.

When it's her turn again, the dog reacts with a loud bark, making her surprised owners laugh involuntarily: "I just scream.

Nika has never barked 'speak loudly' before."

Teaching a popular command – step by step to “Give loudly”

The command “Give loud” is one of the most popular tricks with dogs.

Most furry friends learn the command quite quickly and are even more talented - like Husky Lady Sapphie, who shows her owners when the baby's diaper is full.

A proven method is positive reinforcement.

If the four-legged friend reacts as desired, he receives a reward.

As the video proves, unusual approaches can also be successful.

Just try what works best for your dog.

It is important to have the necessary patience and keep the training fun.

Step by step to “speak loudly” with positive reinforcement:

  • Make your dog bark:

You can do this, for example, with a toy that the dog responds to with joy or excitement.

Hold the object in front of his nose and wave it around a bit, but keep it in your hand.

Wait until your four-legged friend barks.

  • Reward barking:

If your dog makes a sound, give him the toy as a reward.

If it is a ball or a Kong, you can also throw it.

Praise with food and voice like in the video by

    @alittlebigchaos

    is also possible.

At the beginning, reward a quiet “woof” to make the animal understand that it has reacted correctly.

  • Combine barking with a command:

If your dog barks reasonably reliably when he sees the toy, say the vocal command immediately afterwards.

This doesn’t necessarily have to be “speak loudly”.

Basically any word you like can be used.

  • Practice, practice, practice:

Once the dog understands the principle, it's time to stick with it.

This is the only way the four-legged friend internalizes the command.

At some point, the toy becomes superfluous in order to reliably recall the “Give loudly”.
