The Diana Award foundation, created in honor of Lady Diana who gave it its name, celebrated its 25th anniversary this Thursday, March 14.
The ceremony, which took place at the Science Museum in London, also recognized 20 winners with an award focusing on the princess's legacy, called the Legacy Award.
From all over the world, they were chosen from among all the decorated winners of the Diana Award in 2022 and 2023. As the foundation's website indicates, “this prize, in memory of Diana, Princess of Wales, is awarded to exceptional young people who selflessly create positive social change.”
On this occasion, her eldest son, Prince William, as guest of honor, gave a speech recalling the commitment of his mother, whose philanthropy had earned her the nickname “Princess of Hearts”.

“Qualities that my mother shared”
The Prince of Wales, who said he was “delighted” to be present, praised the “character”, “passion” and “determination to make a lasting and significant difference in the lives of others” of the “twenty young people exceptional people” who were rewarded that evening.
“The paths taken by these young people have not always been easy.
Many of them have had to overcome adversity and prejudice, but they are driven by courage, compassion and commitment, qualities that my mother shared,” he added in tribute to Lady Diana.
He also recalled that the Legacy Award and the Diana Award foundation, “reflect (his) mother’s conviction that young people can change the world.”
“I know she would have been honored to see a charity bearing her name doing such inspiring work to help young people around the world,” he said.
Finally, Prince William shared the memory of what his mother would have passed on to him and echoed the actions he takes with his wife, Kate Middleton.
“She taught me that everyone has the potential to give something back, that everyone in need deserves to be supported in life.
It is this legacy that Catherine and I have sought to focus on in our work, as have the 50,000 young people who have received a Diana Award over the past 25 years.”
