Donald Trump authorized the CIA to launch a clandestine social media campaign in China to influence public opinion in the country against the Beijing government.
Reuters reports it on its website.
The CIA created a small team which, with fake identities, spread negative information about Xi Jinping's government, such as the funds hidden abroad by some members of the Communist Party and the waste of the Belt and Road Initiative.
The initiative was launched in 2019, when Trump had been in the White House for two years.
