In 2024, Austria will bring a new vignette.

The change also affects all holiday trips to the south, for example to Italy, Croatia and Slovenia.

Anyone who goes on vacation by car in 2024 should be prepared for a few innovations.

There are a few things that drivers should know, especially heading south, or more specifically when heading towards Austria.

SÜDWEST24 reveals what is changing with the Austrian vignettes.

How does the digital vignette for Austria work?

Austria has a toll system.

This means that anyone who drives their car on motorways, expressways, but also tunnels and bridges has to pay for it.

This works for cars and mobile homes up to a maximum of 3.5 tonnes via the vignette, colloquially known as a sticker.

Vignettes are also required in other European countries.

Which vignette you need depends on how long you are staying in the respective country and where you are going.

While vignettes were previously only available as stickers for the windshield, today they are also offered online and in digital form in many cases.

This is also the case in Austria.

Now this isn't necessarily new for most vacationers.

However, there has been a new vignette for Austria since 2024.

New vignette applies to holiday trips to Italy, Croatia and Slovenia

What is new is that there has been a one-day vignette for Austria since January 1, 2024.

This isn't just good news for the upcoming short trip - the innovation means enormous savings in effort, especially for holiday trips.

The change affects everyone who goes on vacation south and has to pass through Austria on their way.

Anyone who drives to Italy, Slovenia, Croatia and other popular holiday destinations will benefit from the new toll ticket along the way.

Instead of having to get complicated stickers or expensive vignettes for a longer period of time than needed, you can get the digital one-day vignette.

Where do you buy the digital vignette for Austria?

While all other Austrian vignettes are available either as stick-on stickers or digitally, this does not apply to the one-day vignette.

This is only available as a digital e-vignette.

The certificate can be purchased on the website of ASFiNAG, the Austrian motorway and expressway financing company, at www.asfinag.at.

In addition to the new vignette, some prices are also changing.

The ten-day vignette will be a little more expensive in 2024 than before and will now cost 11.50 euros instead of 9.90 euros.

The two-month vignette, on the other hand, is slightly cheaper and only costs 28.90.

The price for the annual vignette remains the same - only the color changes: to sunny yellow.

How much does the new vignette cost for Austria?

The one-day vignette costs 8.60 euros and is valid immediately upon purchase.

This means that even if you have missed the Austrian vignette requirement, you can still book your ticket online and continue driving without delays.

Of course, you shouldn't use your smartphone while behind the wheel; not only is it forbidden, the risk of accidents is too high.

If something happens abroad, it helps to have the European accident report in the glove compartment, along with the other things you always have with you in the car.
