70 years after the legendary feat of Achille Compagnoni and Lino Lacedelli, led by Ardito Desio, Italy returns to K2 with an all-female mountaineering expedition made up of 4 Italian and 4 Pakistani athletes, organized by the CAI and sponsored by the Ministry of Tourism and from that of Foreign Affairs.
"Seventy years ago the expedition to K2 relaunched Italy on an international level after the Second World War - said the president of CAI Antonio Montani, presenting the undertaking in Milan - Today we want to go further, with a mountaineering undertaking with which we bring the message that women are excellent even in the mountains".
Coordinating the mountaineers, who will leave for Pakistan on 15 June, is the well-known colleague Agostino Da Polenza who, estimating that the expedition will reach the summit on 24 or 25 July, plans to open the Olympics by planting the flag with the 5 circles on top of the K2.
