A booklet that warns against the dangers of gender violence and illustrates the signs, drawings and explanations, which will be distributed in hundreds of thousands of copies in various public places, such as workplaces, those where sports are practiced and in prisons.
It is the initiative promoted by the Ministry of Justice, presented today in via Arenula by the Keeper of the Seals Carlo Nordio.
"We will spread it as much as possible - explains the minister -. It is a brochure with very impactful and very clear contents.
It is divided into various sections and starts from the warning signs that women must understand, symptomatic of a possible aggressive attitude of men towards of women: what previously could be interpreted as gallant can now be interpreted as an alarm. The only part dedicated to men is that of the consequences entailed by these crimes.
The task of the ministry and the judiciary is not only to repress but also and above all to prevent" .
A collection of national, supranational and all-source regulations regarding the crime of gender violence was also presented to the ministry.
"Inspirations must be drawn from these regulations, because this type of crime is multifaceted. The study done serves and must also serve to fill any regulatory gaps", said Minister Carlo Nordio, who said he was open to the hypothesis of creating a text unique on this legal topic.
"To create the text we sent a questionnaire to all the Italian prosecutor's offices on the implementation of national and international legislation on gender violence. The question is also to understand any problems, but also the analysis of the language used in the regulatory and communication. A future step will in fact be to also reflect on these aspects", explained Maria Rosaria Covelli, president of the permanent observatory on the effectiveness of regulations on gender and domestic violence.
For Covelli "we need a general homogeneity in the approach of the prosecutors' offices to this matter. The objective is to improve the organization of the judicial offices, and for this reason we are also creating a collection of good organizational practices".
According to the data released at the presentation of the work, in 2022 there were 3,443 first instance convictions for sexual violence, 973 for sexual violence and 2,281 for persecution.
