American actress and model Olivia Munn revealed Wednesday that she underwent a double mastectomy last year after being diagnosed with an "aggressive and fast-progressing" form of breast cancer.
After appearing at the Oscars in Hollywood on Sunday alongside her companion - American comedian John Mulaney -, Olivia Munn wrote on Instagram: “I hope that by sharing this, it will help others find comfort, inspiration and support for their own journey” with this disease.
Known for her roles in the big franchises such as “Iron Man” and “X-Men”, but also in “Ocean's 8” or even in the series “The Newsroom”, the actress explained that in February 2023 she directed a “negative genetic test” for cancer risks and a “normal mammogram”.
“She quite simply saved my life”
Despite this result, her gynecologist decided to have her undergo a statistical assessment two months later on her risks of contracting breast cancer taking into account her family history, or the age at which she had her child.

After receiving a result announcing a probability of 37%, Olivia Munn decides to have an MRI, an ultrasound and a biopsy which “reveals luminal B cancer in both breasts”, an “aggressive and fast-growing” form of cancer.
“I would only have discovered this cancer a year later, during my next mammogram, if my gynecologist had not made the decision to carry out this risk calculation.
She simply saved my life,” she wrote on her social networks.

“Thirty days after this biopsy, I had a double mastectomy, going from a state where I felt perfectly fine to waking up in a hospital bed after ten hours of surgery,” the actress also recounts. , posting several photos of her in the hospital.
