Diabetes "is a bit like the paradigm of chronic non-communicable diseases to which the attention of the ministry and myself, since the first days, has been maximum. They represent the challenge for a nation like Italy which has the advantage of having a particularly long-lived population, but in addition to wanting Italians to live longer, we would also like Italians to spend their years in good health."
This is what the Minister of Health Orazio Schillaci said while speaking at the General States of Diabetes taking place at Villa Mondragone in Monte Porzio Catone (RM).
"In Italy there are around 4 million people with diabetes and many others are those who do not know they have it and who have not yet been diagnosed", added the minister.
"This is a complex epidemiological picture due to incorrect lifestyles: I remember the diet, the sedentary lifestyle, the harmful and risky consumption of alcohol and smoking. We are fully committed to this too, above all to ensure that this type of attention towards correct lifestyles should be brought to children starting from primary school"..
