A manufacturer is recalling five of its products.
These are available at Rewe and Edeka, among others.
Several federal states are affected.
Munich – Microbiological contamination caused by germs, viruses or bacteria is, as the Federal Office of Consumer Protection and Food Safety (BVL) informs, the most common cause of a recall.
The federal states and the BVL published around 308 recalls last year in 2023 on the joint portal
lebensmittelanwalt.de
.
In addition to bacteria such as Salmonella,
Listeria monocytogenes
or
E. coli,
the causes include mold and viruses.
With around 35 reports, salmonella was once again the most common reason.
Just recently, a Kaufland product was recalled throughout Germany due to the risk of salmonella.
Now a French cheese manufacturer is recalling five of its products for a similar reason - consumption can cause serious health problems.

Whether Gouda, Camembert or mozzarella – cheese is one of the most popular foods among Germans.
But cheese lovers should be careful now.
As the BVl now informs, five products from a French brand have been taken out of circulation.
These were sold in the following federal states:
Baden-Württemberg
Bavaria
Hesse
North Rhine-Westphalia
A statement from the French company “Fromagerie Dongé” states that the cheese is being recalled “due to suspected contamination with undesirable bacteria (Escherichia coli STEC)”.
Customers should under no circumstances consume the cheese.
Otherwise, serious health consequences can occur: “These can lead to sometimes febrile gastrointestinal disorders, possibly with bleeding, within a few days (2-7) after consuming contaminated products.
Serious kidney complications are possible, especially in children.” The following types of “Brie de Meaux” cheese are involved:
Brie de Meaux Excellence 3/4 ff
Brie de Meaux Xavier David
Brie de Meaux Xavier David Aff44j
Brie de Meaux AOC Donge BB 3/4Aff
Brie de Meaux LRDC 3/4 wood

E. coli bacteria belong to the Shiga toxin-producing strain
Escherichia coli (STEC).
If these get into the human body, according to the Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR)
have serious health consequences.
These include organ damage, cerebral hemorrhages and neurological disorders.
The E. coli strains STEC and EHEC can also cause bloody diarrhea (hemorrhagic colitis) and kidney failure (hemolytic uremic syndrome).
The incubation period is two to ten days, on average around three to four days.
Symptoms range from gastrointestinal distress with mild diarrhea to severe bloody diarrhea, often associated with abdominal cramps, nausea, vomiting and fever.
Children under the age of five, older people and people with weakened immune systems are particularly often affected by severe EHEC diseases with bloody diarrhea.

But it happens again and again that products that were already on the shelves of supermarkets and discounters are recalled.
Only recently an organic product that was sold in numerous federal states had to be withdrawn from sale.
Also Dr.
Oetker had to recall a popular product due to mold toxins.
