The Marine Corps becomes more modern: the obligation to wear pantyhose for female soldiers is no longer required.
Effective immediately, you will have the option to choose whether to wear them combined with your uniform and skirt.
The obligation to wear pantyhose had been in force since 1948, when conscription was opened to women.
They currently represent 5% of the 175,000 active duty members, as reported by Marine Corps University.
According to a spokesperson, the tights requirement was removed because it 'did not pass the common sense test'.
The Marines' new policy follows that adopted by the US Navy, which already in 2022 made the use of tights optional with skirts.
