The fate of the crew of the cargo Galaxy Leader hijacked in November by Houthi-Iranian militiamen in the Red Sea is now in the hands of Hamas.

Houthi spokesman Nasr Al-Din Amer declared this to CNN: "The ship and its crew are in the hands of the brothers of the Hamas resistance movement and the Al-Qassam Brigades", he said.

The Galaxy Leader was operated by the Japanese company Nippon Yusen.

According to Ambrey Analytics, it is owned by RayCar Carriers, a company linked to Israeli citizen AbrahamUngar.

The crew includes 17 Filipinos, two Bulgarians, three Ukrainians, two Mexicans and one Romanian.
