  • 600g potatoes

  • 3 tsp salt

  • 100 g grated cheese

  • 50g butter

  • 200 ml milk

  • 1 pinch of nutmeg

Minced meat mixture:

  • 500 g red cabbage

  • 70g apple

  • 70g onions

  • 1 clove of garlic

  • 1 tbsp cooking oil

  • 500 g minced meat (you can also use these vegetarian alternatives)

  • salt and pepper

  • Some butter for the mold

  • 70 g grated cheese

Preparation is easy thanks to these step-by-step instructions:

  • For the mashed potatoes:

    Wash, peel and cut the potatoes into cubes.

    Cook the potato cubes in boiling water with two teaspoons of salt until tender.

    Drain and pour into a bowl.

  • Mash the hot potatoes together with grated cheese, butter, milk, the remaining teaspoon of salt and a pinch of nutmeg into a creamy puree.

    Put aside.

  • For the minced meat mixture:

    Clean the red cabbage, cut out the stalk in a wedge shape and cut into fine strips.

    Peel the apple, core it and cut it into small cubes.

    Peel the onion and garlic and chop finely.

  • Heat cooking oil in a pan and fry the minced meat until crumbly.

    Add the onions and garlic and fry for three minutes.

    Finally add the red cabbage and apple and fry until the cabbage is soft.

    Season with salt and pepper.

  • Grease a baking dish with a little butter.

    Put the minced meat and red cabbage mixture in the baking dish and spread the mashed potatoes over it.

    Sprinkle the remaining cheese (70 grams) on top.

  • Bake the shepherd's pie in a preheated oven at 200 °C for about 45 minutes, until the mashed potatoes are golden brown and crispy.
